The West Side Opera

The West Side Opera under the musical direction of Roger Malouf is proud to bring great performances of opera in concert to all the people of New York again this season. Join us for an economical afternoon or evening of fine music that we are sure will delight you.

The West Side Opera was founded in 1989. Its mission is to provide singers with the opportunity to perform complete operas in concert. Singers in past WSO productions have gone on to perform with The Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Los Angelos Music Center Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Dallas Opera, Washington Opera, Anchorage Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Sarasota Opera, the Spoleto Festival, and in European opera houses.

The West Side Opera's first presentation this seaon is two abridged concert performances of Johann Strauss' DIE FLEDERMAUS on the Trinity Church Concert Series. These performances are part of the world-wide presentation of Strauss' music in honor of the centenary of his death. Next, under the auspices of Sunday's at JASA, WSO will perform Pergolesi's delightful comic opera LA SERVA PADRONA. This concert performance will also include arias and songs from the Italian Baroque.

Singers returning to West Side Opera are Kathleen Keske as Rosalinda, Pamela Scanlon as Adele, Francis Liska as Eisenstein and Vespone, Todd Blankenship as Alfred, Joyce E. Greene as Serpina, and Sean Barker as Uberto. With West Side Opera, Ms. Keske has sung the roles of Elsa, Sieglinde and Freia, Mr. Liska the roles of Lohengrin, Siegmund and Siegfried, Mr. Blankenship the role of Mime, Mr. Barker the roles of Wotan and Pizzaro, and Ms. Scanlon & Ms. Greene appeared in last season's German Opera Gala.
